COST Action 2026 Sustainable Communications
We are putting together an application for COST Action funding to be submitted in autumn 2026.
The working title is Sustainable Communications and the main themes we wish to explore are how issues of sustainability are discussed and contested across institutional, political and social divides.
At present we plan to build on two main strands: communication issues and inclusion.
In terms of communication issues, we will be devising activities around areas such as: education for sustainability; sustainability in the media; the promise and challenges of AI; information cycles; and contextualisation of information.
In terms of inclusion, we will be devising activities that seek to move the focus from academia and to include groups such as extractive industries, civic society, and environmental activists. As well as broadening the debate, we will explore the crunch question of why such groups might be reluctant to work with academics on issues around sustainability and the environment.
We would particularly (but not exclusively!) welcome non-academic parters and partners from Inclusiveness Target Countries: https://www.cost.eu/about/strategy/excellence-and-inclusiveness/
